چکیده

The 96 hrs LC50 values for malathion and glyphosate was determined to be 9.1 ppm and 5.5 ppb, respectively on the fairy shrimp, Streptocephalus dichotomus preadults. The 1/5 of 96 hrs LC50 of malathion (2.0 ppm) and glyphosate (1.1 ppb) respectively was chosen. The sub lethal toxic effect of each of these pesticides on the acetylcholinesterase activity (AchE) of S. dichotomus was assayed on days 0 and 15 of exposure, and found to be significantly decreased (0.13±0.006 nmol/mg/min) in malathion than in glyphosate when compared with control. Furthermore, the contents of selected biochemical constituents (total protein, carbohydrate and lipid) of S. dichotomus were estimated on ‘0’, 15 and 30 days of exposures, and found to be decreased significantly on 30 day in both the pesticides when compared to control. The results indicated the fact that these pesticides are toxic to S. dichotomus at the tested concentrations.

A new species of Streptocephalus (Crustacea: Anostraca: Streptocephalidae) from the Western Ghats, India, with a key to the Asian species.

We present and describe the fairy shrimp Streptocephalus sahyadriensis sp. nov. from the Western Ghats of India. This species is most similar to S. simplex Gurney, 1906 and S. dichotomus Baird, 1860 sharing similar basic antennal appendage morphology. However, S. sahyadriensis sp. nov. differs in the form of the ornamentation on the peduncle and the arrangement and form of spines on the antenna...

Acetylcholinesterase activity in grass shrimp and aqueous pesticide levels from South Florida drainage canals.

Freshwater drainage canals in South Florida are utilized to manage water in agricultural, urban, and water conservation areas and, as a result, collect urban and agricultural storm runoff that is discharged into the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico. Pesticides in this runoff may be toxic to the biota inhabiting these waters. This study evaluated the effects of contaminants in South Florida can...

Docking Studies, Synthesis, and In-vitro Evaluation of Novel Oximes Based on Nitrones as Reactivators of Inhibited Acetylcholinesterase

Acetylcholinesterase has important role in synaptic cleft. It breaks down the acetylcholineatcholinergic synapsesand terminates the cholinergic effects. Some chemical agents likeorganophosphorus compounds (OPCs) including nerve agents and pesticides react withacetylcholinesteraseirreversibly. They inhibit normal biological enzyme action and resultin accumulation of acetylcholineand show toxic e...

ترکیبات ارگانوفسفره و سیستم گابائرژیک مغز

Organophosphorus (OP) compounds are cholinesterase inhibitors widely used as pesticides in agriculture and nerve agents in battlefields. Exposure to these compounds leads to accumulation of acetylcholine at cholinergic synapses and overstimulation of muscarinic and nicotinic receptors by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase. Seizure activity is one of the major manifestations of OP poison...

Computational interaction analysis of organophosphorus pesticides with different metabolic proteins in humans

Pesticides have the potential to leave harmful effects on humans, animals, other living organisms, and the environment. Several human metabolic proteins inhibited after exposure to organophosphorus pesticides absorbed through the skin, inhalation, eyes and oral mucosa, are most important targets for this interaction study. The crystal structure of five different proteins, PDBIDs: 3LII, 3NXU, 4G...
